all about dale

Dale is a native of Bangor, Maine, where he still resides. He is the fourth and youngest son of Frank and Avis Mower. At the age of 13, Dale moved with his family into the family homestead on Pushaw Road - making him a member of the sixth and last generation to grow up on the family dairy farm.

In 1985, Dale married Patti Gilbert. Together, they've been blessed with three great children - Meaghan, Derek and Melissa. Challenging at times, a blessing none the less.

Occupationally speaking, Dale is an accountant. A graduate of Husson College (now University) with a B.S. in Public Accounting, he earned his CPA designation in 1986. He subsequently earned his CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation. Today he is an owner and the financial guy for Creative Print Services, a business forms and other print media distributor in Bangor.

the genealogical addiction

In August, 2000, we lost "Momsy." Jane Agnes (Thebeau) (Gilbert) McDonald was Dale's fiery mother-in-law. There was a realization at that time that not much was really known about her heritage. Hence, the quest began and the roots of an addiction took hold.

In a short time, Dale became involved in genealogical pursuits on a number of fronts. In 2002, he founded the Penobscot County Genealogical Society and is a past-president and currently serves as its webmaster.

Other organizations Dale is involved in include:

  • Maine Genealogical Society - serving as president and webmaster
  • Wassebec Genealogical Society - serving as webmaster
  • USGenWeb - volunteer for the town of Greene, Maine
  • Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War - member
  • New Brunswick Genealogical Society - member
  • New England Historic Genealogical Society - member
  • National Genealogical Society - member
  • Maine Old Cemetery Association - past vice-president

Dale has also evolved as a lecturer on a variety of genealogical topics. He has given presentations on the use of military pension records, internet research, discovering your family history on eBay, Googling your family tree, and gravestone symbolism. Dale has also conducted workshops on beginning genealogy and planting the family tree online.

and there are other interests

When not pursuing genealogical endeavors or just totally vegging out in front of the television (yes, American Idol is on the viewing list, but I love Jeopardy, Bones, House, Two and a Half Men, Weeds, and The Jay Leno Show) or listening to a wide variety of music (from Sarah Vaughn to Trisha Yearwood to Tina Turner to Daughtry to Gladys Knight to Reba McEntire). Dale is a voracious reader - a trait he inherited from his Grandmother Mower - and especially enjoys historical fiction and English history.

Dale is currently listening to:

And currently reading:

Falls the Shadow

There - that's probably more than you really wanted to know.
